Why do we like transformation?

So I've been thinking about why we even read this stuff. I mean, most people would probably be creeped out or disinterested or something, and yet there's a pretty dedicated audience of people that reads transformation stories too. Those people (us) who don't find this stuff to strange to read most likely aren't just psychotic, so then why do we read it? That's what I've been trying to uncover. Honestly, there's no real evidence for any of my stuff, but I'd like to get it out there. There are so many reasons for everyone, but I think I did a good job of finding the biggest three. I'd also like to hear your thoughts on this: am I completely wrong? A little misguided? The new genius psychologist that gives Freud a run for his money? Tell me in the comments. These kinds of ideas almost definitely apply to other things, but I'm only providing examples for tf stories and that's what I had originally intended to cover, so that's where I'm leaving it. Plus, most times stories can appeal to many of these aspects, or all of them- they're not mutually exclusive.

Without further ado, the three biggest reasons I think people are attracted to TF stories:

    1. Escapism

Off the Beaten Track - Naga TFJust a few scrapes and bruises, nothing serious, I thought as I examined my injuries. I wasn't sure what had happened as it occurred too quickly for my brain to comprehend it. One moment I was riding my bike through the forest near my house, along a familiar dusty pathway that I always took to get to school, and before I knew it I rode straight into an overhanging tree branch that smacked me right in the face, causing me to lose my balance and go plummeting to the ground.
I was happy that I didn't break any bones or anything. This area, although it was near the town, was still hard to get to and because of that medical attention could have a hard time getting to me. I dusted myself off, accidentally wiping some blood from my scraped knee onto my fingers, and got to my feet.
My bike was lying flat on the ground next to a few shrubs. It didn't seem like it had sustained any damage at all. I breathed a sigh of relief. Paying for repairs would have caused a serious problem since my family
Eagle TransformationA piercing screech echoed through the half-filled auditorium. Some let out gasps and others looked on in awe as the bald eagle soared mere feet above their heads before gripping onto a thick leather glove protecting the handler's hand from its sharp talons. All had gone as planned and the audience members began clapping.
Sora was sitting right in front of the stage, in the first row. This was the 9:00pm show, the last one before the zoo closed for the night, and the fourth of the day. He had been to all four shows, sitting in the same spot each time.
Birds fascinated him, they always had, and probably always would. Since owning them wasn't allowed where he lived, coming to the zoo was the only place he could see some of the more exotic ones up close. Sora came whenever he could, bought a season pass even.
The handler gave a light bow as the audience began to file out, though the eagle on his arm looked almost disappointed to see them go. For a brief moment, the eagle turned its attenti
Fox and Wolf TFI stood in the corner of the room, watching my classmates have their conversations that lead to nowhere. Talking about the usual; sports, girlfriends, boyfriends, cars, fashions, and more. I didn't join into those kinds of talk because I didn't have anything to talk about. I was the ghost of the school, the alien, the one who didn't belong to any social groups.
Even if I did have something to say, I was usually ignored for no reason. Perhaps it's because I was the alien there that people didn't pay any attention to. It got bad when I would play a team game with my classmates because, usually, no one except me knew which team I was on. But it was silly and stupid when my classmates were encouraging me to speak out more, be more social, but how could I have if the same people ignored me, making the whole argument pointless?
'I don't belong here,' I thought. 'I belong somewhere else.'
There' were times, like being ignored, that made me feel like I was being abused by everyon
Some people like to play video games to forget about their current life, others doze off to a relaxing soundtrack that makes them forget about all their responsibilities for a little bit, and still others read transformation stories. Kind of like how some people just generally read books to immerse themselves in another person's life, a life that's usually better or more exciting in some way, but in this case it's usually a life that has no responsibilities-- the life of an animal. Because of this, the stories that most interest these people are ones where the person getting transformed starts off with a job or more commonly at school, and then ends up running off into the forest or in another planet or being completely taken care of by a company. Situations where they go from a position of stress to something where they have nothing to worry about-- they're not human so they don't have to contribute to society.

Clearing his throat, the host resumed the broadcast of his show after some commercials. Turning to the camera, he assumed one of his false but welcoming smiles. "Hello, and welcome back to the Tales of the Strange and Weird. I’m here with Edward Blacknail, and we've been discussing strange beasts that may or may not roam America." The host addressed the audience, then turned to the thin, balding man beside him.
"Now, before the break, you mentioned some new creatures." The host prompted Edward.
"Yes, recently, in the past fifteen years, researchers have seen proof of some undiscovered beast within certain parts of the northwest," Edward revealed to the host.
"What do you mean?"
"New data suggests some kind of large lizard creature."
"A large lizard?"
"Yes, we've only found one or two footprints, but they are huge, at least two feet in diameter. They point to a creature that had to be as large as a dinosaur,
A Shocking Change - Galvantula-Taur TFPeter turned to look at the old abandoned building on the coast, the waves spilling up onto the stone steps leading up to the broken sliding glass doors that lead into the vine-covered structure. Nodding to his friend, he gestured over the rocks along the shore. "There it is! The abandoned tidal power plant we heard about. You ready to head on in?"
James returned his nod, grinning. "You have any idea where the Thunderstones are supposed to be?" Waiting a moment, he shook his head. "Ahh... It doesn't matter. Let's head on in!"
"I guess they'd have to be pretty deep inside. I wonder if we'll find anything else. We might find an Ampharos around here for all we know!" Peter grinned. "Good thing I stocked up on Ultra Balls just in case they were needed."
"Good thing you thought ahead." James smiled back to his friend. "Well we're wasting time standing around here, so let's get our butts in gear!"
The pair started quickly hiking through the tide, scrabbling up the rocks and the worn-away sta

Transhumanism: The belief that the human race can evolve beyond its current limitations, especially by the use of science and technology. This kind of reader is more interested in the actual tf, of what they become at the end or how they become that thing. This is the most popular, if I had to guess, and kind of the "pure" option. They're interested in tf stories... for the tf. Sometimes they're only in for their favorite animal, and to see what living like a dragon or a mermaid or a werewolf or a fox would be like, and other times it's the change itself that's appealing. They don't really care what they change into, just that it's different and usually better in some way (more dangerous, more durable, more intelligent, more beautiful, etc.) than a normal human. I'd also put the classic furry appeal (turning into a fursona) under this, as that's mostly about becoming something they like being or at least imagining themself as more than a normal human. On the sadder side of this, some people can be attracted to this because they really dislike their current body, whether it's because they're ashamed of their weight, a disability, or something else entirely. Changing bodies lets them leave all that behind.

    3. Fetishism

Fight Like AnimalsDamon punched the doorframe, avoiding the wall so he wouldn't have to plaster over a hole.  His girlfriend Angela had been treating his friend poorly and acting weird for a while now.  Finally confronting her about it tonight things exploded into a heated argument, and now Angela had left him.  She was jealous of him and his lifelong friend!  She accused him of cheating on her!  Samantha had been his friend for as long as Damon could remember, they had always been and would always be just friends!  Damon had enough of Angela's mistrust and jealousy, the very idea was infuriating!  And now poor Sam was caught in the middle of this, and after it had been so long since she and Damon seen each other too.
Damon turned around and nearly fell over backward when he seen the figure standing only inches in front of him!  He heard no footsteps and the front door was still closed!  The figure was invisible within the long aged grey hooded robes, and an

Yeah, there are people attracted to it because it turns them on- duh, it's like that for everything. But for some reason with furries and that whole community especially it seems like it's more common or at least easier to find. Which isn't a problem, it's mostly behind mature restrictions so that it's always appropriate and you have to look for it in the first place. Still, once you've read enough stories, even if you're not into the sexual side of things, you can't dodge all of them. I don't mean this as a bad thing for anyone, it's totally fine to be into whatever you're into. It's just another angle people like for tf stories. Usually the stories will do a good job of describing in great detail how genitalia changes or grows compared to anything else. Of course, there's a difference between just saying "ok, their sexual organs changed from humanoid into a tiger's" and "HIS D**K THROBBED AS IT PUSHED OUT AND OUT BEFORE PENETRATING IN AND IN", but it's usually pretty clear when there is something like that. And not all people need it to be that exaggerated too, sometimes the entire transformation itself it the turn-on. Who really knows, I'm pretty young and people are strange.

* Sorry I don't have more, I don't usually search for these and don't know of a lot. You can but I'm not particularly interested in it so I'll leave it up to you people. I picked one that has a pretty clear shift to the sexual, but even when it's not this obvious you can usually get a feeling if it's supposed to... give you a feeling!

Alright! That's all I've got for now. On the news side of things, I've done a lot of the groundwork to make school much easier for the rest of the year, and I moved off of dual-booting ZorinOS (a pretty small but alright Linux-based operating system) to just windows for everything. What does that actually mean? I'm not as embarrassed to be writing any of this or be on the furry scale, and you'll probably see more things from me in the future. Get hype! I'm thinking I'll probably return to my original motivation for writing these and push a naga story out. We'll see :)

Alllllso, last thing, I swear, but this is really awesome! :icontimmichangas: is having another TF Raffle! I was honored to win the first one, and he's really been great in working on the prize for it. He's posted one of the prizes from his first raffle already here, and I can't wait to see who wins his second one. It could be you! There's nothing to lose, so go put your name in the drawing. It's pretty amazing to have someone want to write you a free story, I'd highly recommend it! Get going!

I like TF as a fetish, but I'm not specifically aroused by the NSFW characteristics. For example, Mario transformations do the trick. From what I see non-fetish people also like TF themes for the same reasons I do, but for them it doesn't go into the sexual zone, and I want to understand why.
